What do you want Santa to bring you this Christmas?

November 30th 2009 by BeanStew2

As gardeners, which present do you really want Santa to load on his sleigh for YOU this year?  I don't usually worry whether it can get down the chimney or not, but just concentrate on getting the news out to my nearest and dearest in plenty of time.

Tip 1.  Leave your answer visible on computer screen when not engaged in following Your News on Gardenersclick.

Tip 2. Send off for descriptive leaflets from nurseryman or manufacturer, and place strategically around the house.

Jaci - over the garden wall (try googling!) do these wooden seed trays - you could save your OH's time and get him to make you something else instead!!

Will give it a go, he is very clever so shouldnt be too hard for him! Dont tell him I said that though, keep telling him he needs a bit more practice so he keeps making me stuff

with a handle up middle like this one ...mind you ..might get in way a bit ..when sowing etc...but good when going round the garden planting seedlings out ..

No handle - they are very similar to greengrocers trays but dont tell OH or he will just go the grocers & pinch some!

Handle sounds good though for using as a carry cot for me seedlings

Ah ....ha ... you have just named it ...Bean Stews Secret Sludge ....recipe never given out ..!! Would be thrown out of the B.A,D, group if ingredients divulged...

I can give the jars a fantastical name, but this might invite the question, "Can you give me the recipe"  -  "Haven't a clue" I'll answer airily, "a bit of this and that".

Lol ...you could label them with anything ..no one will be any the wiser... make up some wonderfull new personalized name for it ...Like Beans Relish of the Gods ..or BS's super sludge ....!! If your giving any away ..make sure its those ones ...ha ha could have a competition then ...guess the ingredients ..the prize ..." another jar of chutney ..!!!!

Would make preserves cupboard look so neat and orderly, all the jars the same.  But have another problem - didn't put any labels on the jars.  OK for beetroot, pickled shallots, and beans - but have many jars of similar looking sludge (chutney) - think will print Christmas labels for "Guess What Chutney?"

Will add Burt Bees Almond handcream to Christmas list - daughters will be overjoyed at what they consider a "normal" request, from someone who usually asks for fruit cages and heated propagators.  And the wrapping is so much easier! Hope you get your greenhouse, Honey - will save you money in the long run through contributions to housekeeping etc - blind your OH with economics, and visions of meals stuffed with organic vitamins etc - will keep fingers crossed (ouch!) for you.

Treat yourself to some Burts Bees Almond hand cream BS for Christmas. It wont' cure the arthritis but it is lovely and soothing. Its the only one I've found to help

Have been taking glucosamine with chondroitin for years, and can only assume that hands would have seized up completely without it - apparently sometimes accompanies menopause.  But no arthritis anywhere else - so very lucky.  Have not taken any oils - must be reason my coat is dull and staring, and I keep having to rub my back on the edge of the door.  Have two jars of runners for Xmas as well - will make MUCH more next year. Perhaps jamjars should be on my Christmas list.

Sorry to hear about the hands BS ...do you take evening primrose oil or olive oil capsules...might not help your hands ..but you will have a lovely shiny coat ...!!

Think you deserve a little pampering MV, in your tireless pursuit of self-sufficiency and maternal denial.  Could ask to bathe in asses milk every Sunday, and I wouldn't think it excessive - but well-earned.  Any one who gives us a recipe for green bean pickle deserves whatever she wants, so enjoy - and I hope it arrives in time!  Have horrible picture of skin the colour of walnuts, and lips chapped and bleeding in the cold winds.

A hamper of Liz Earl ...products ...I know I know ...but ...its is my one luxury item ...its all natural products ..and I have sensitive skin ..unfortunately ...I ran out of this in the summer ...but have had to put other "gardening needs" & children needs  first ...but now after months without it wish I had forked out !! Being out in the wind/sun/rain ..on my bike down lottie ...plays havoc with a girls complection ...

This topsoil is what I wanted this year, but was unable to persuade anyone to buy for me.  So I just bought it for myself - and if all else fails, that's what I fall back on.  Everyone's choices have not disappointed - as gardeners we are very practical people who want useful things which we will enjoy using on a daily basis.

Miriam's Christmas wish struck a chord for me - but I'd settle for some lycra in my arthritic hands - loss of manual power and dexterity can be a real pain when gardening. So Miriam is a real trouper to put up with it in other places too in pursuit of her profession.

Hayley - can you tell me what a beam compass is, and what you would use it for?

Well... I would like my shed up at the lottie but I think the weather has won me on that, still a bit of work before we can put it up.  Also a laptop but I will wait for that January feb time as it might be cheaper.....Sooo I would like my christmas to be like the men behaving badly one... all in Christmas jumpers...smiling all day..snow on the ground, oh and a choir.......Magic

I'd like an injection of lycra all over so everything doesn't hurt whenever I do a lot of gardening... think my elastic's completely gone

A beam compass and some Felco no7 secateurs!! Oh, and some bright, dry days would be a bonus too!

I have already told No.3 son I want a curly hose for the front yard.

Incase you dont know what I mean. It's like phone cable, coiled and  stretches, save winding it up all the time.
