the Tomato book
the Tomato book by Gail Harland & Sofia Larrinua-Craxton
My eagerly awaited book to review has arrived and I have read it from cover to cover. It is not a large book but has a wealth of information, from choosing your tomato plant to recipes for eating your harvest, with every stage in between covered. Some general information about the origin of the tomato itself and its apppearence on our shores is followed by 160 tomato varieties, description , taste type etc. I have definitely found a few varieties I am going to search out to try.
Info is broken down nicely into small segments which makes it very easy to 'dip' into, including a handy trouble shooting section to pinpoint what went wrong or what ails your plants. The book moves in a very logical way through all stages of tomato growing ending with preserving your crop and includes a good selection of interesting recipes, quite of few of which I shall be testing, I have doubts about my families reaction to Tomato and Marscapone icecream, but until you try it .... Will give you an update on that one as and when I make it.
All in all I found this a very enjoyable book, one I will be quite happy to refer to again and again. Published by Dorling Kindersley at £12.99, an attractive book that would make a nice Christmas present for a gardening friend, or yourself of course, as I am sure there is something here for everyone, perfect for absolute beginner but also of use to the more experienced tomato grower.

Hi Thanks for this, I have added it to my Christmas wish list. Early I know but by the time it comes around I can never think of what to put on the list apart from the Porche ( I can dream) ha ha.
Thank you for pointing this book out. I will go to Borders bookshop and look for it - just the thing for my daughter.
