Lily Beetles

Now is definintely the time to be checking your lillies against the dreaded lily beetle!  I have today squashed about 30 (on one plant) of extremely young (pin head sized) young beetles.  Even at that size they are making holes and if you get them now they are not savvy enough to fall off and disapear on the soil like they do when they are older.

It's worth gently washing the leaves as well to remove any unhatched eggs (they just look like dirt sitting on the leaf).  Get them washed off and keep an eye on the plant and especially the under sides of the leaves.

I'm in Cheshire and check carefully because they are tiny at the moment, but they'll soon grow!

Where abouts in the country are you?  In Winchester I've only had 2 beetles this year - can't believe my luck as last year was disastrous...
