One of the many talking points of the recent wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was their choice of traditional English flowers in the bouquets, corsages and of course in the decoration of Westminster Abbey.
Charlie Ryrie founder of 'The Real Cut Flower Garden' is hoping that this Royal seal of approval for traditional flowers will raise awareness of the natural beauty of British blooms - something she has been striving to do since she launched her Real Cut Flower Garden mail order company back in 2006.
Since then Charlie and her dedicated team have been growing a wide variety of traditional flowers on several acres of former pastureland at Charlie’s home, high on the Herefordshire / Wales border. Here the team produce home grown seasonal bouquets for mail order and provide stunning flowers and arrangements for weddings and events.
Unlike the majority of florists, Charlie’s beautiful bouquets vary with the seasons and the weather. The arrangements are natural and uncontrived - elegant enough to grace a special event and unpretentious enough for a kitchen table. No two bouquets are identical and she uses many plant varieties and forms that conventional florists just can't offer.
We caught up with Charlie this month, at the height of the growing season, to find out just what it is that inspires her work.
